Accommodation in Thailand

There are less than 10 days left before the trip, so I decided to write one more text, this time about my accommodation in Thailand.

First of all, considering that I will be spending 2 months in the Kingdom, I initially wanted to visit at least 4 or 5 places, but in the end, I decided on only 2 - Bangkok (the capital) and Chiang Mai in the northwest of the country. I have booked accommodation in Bangkok for a month, until December 24th, so I will spend my 25th birthday there; while I will spend the rest of the trip in Chiang Mai, including Christmas and New Year! On January 18, 2025, I will return to Bangkok where I will stay for one more night before flying back.

Bangkok was an option from the very start - a metropolis with many entertainment options, rich history, and exotic food. From night (food) markets that are generally popular in that part of Asia, to numerous centuries-old Buddhist temples and the most modern architecture...

Chiang Mai appealed to me because it is considered a much quieter and more conservative place than Bangkok, with a beautiful view of the mountain when looking towards Myanmar. There are also many Buddhist temples here, and it is also known as a popular place for digital nomads. Also, I will spend my free days during the holidays here, so I believe that a real rest will be very pleasant in such an environment.

...but neither Bangkok nor Chiang Mai are close to the sea!

It is always warm in Thailand, so as someone coming from a country that has no access to the sea, it might be strange why I chose these 2 cities and not some place considered a 'paradise on earth' in that island-sea-...-palm context. Bangkok is, for example, ~150km away from the nearest beach, and Chiang Mai is anything but close to the sea...

The answer is that I satisfied my needs for the sea and swimming, yes :)(: I had the opportunity to spend my vacation at the sea, and after that, a company remote work in Athens in a large apartment with a pool. Already in Athens, I realized that it doesn't matter much to me whether I will be near a beach or not. However, the accommodation I booked has a pool if I feel like it.

Finally about the accommodation

I booked the accommodation through Airbnb, and for the last day (when I return from Chiang Mai to Bangkok) I booked accommodation through Booking.com (hotel).

In Bangkok, I found an apartment that is very well equipped, from the kitchen, bathroom, living and sleeping areas to things like wi-fi, air conditioning, etc. In the same building, there is also a gym and an infinity pool as well as some kind of office space for free use. The apartment is not the closest to the city center and all the main events, but considering that transportation in Thailand is very cheap, this does not represent a big problem.

Location of accommodation in Bangkok

For a month's stay during the peak tourist season, such an apartment costs a little over 700€.

Chiang Mai is equipped with more or less the same things and the only difference is that here the pool is on the roof of the building, with a direct view of the mountain. The location is excellent, but considering that the city itself is small, the location cannot be bad.
I will spend a little less than a month here and it cost me a little over 600€.

Pictures of the apartment will be posted later

I booked a hotel for 1 day/night for 40€. A slightly higher budget for 1 day than for other accommodation per day, but that's because this hotel was the quickest to pop up in the search, and the pictures were more than satisfactory.

Something logical, but still worth mentioning: there are various prices, but this is roughly what can be expected for this time of year if you take accommodation with similar characteristics. Reviewing various options, I came to the conclusion that you can spend the same amount of time for half the money if you 'sacrifice' certain things, but still with a high level of comfort.
